BITSAT exam Pattern

The Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Pilani conducts the computer-based BITSAT Exam to select students for admission to the Integrated First Degree Programs of BITS Pilani Campuses in Pilani, Goa, and Hyderabad, for its B.E., B.Pharm., and M.Sc. programs.

The BITSAT exam is taken by nearly 3 lakh students annually across 63 test centers in India. There are approximately 2000 seats available at various BITS campuses through the BITSAT exam, out of which nearly 1-1.5 thousand students are selected. Admissions are offered in Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical & Electronics, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering and Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering

Candidates are advised to aim for a minimum score of 225 out of 450 marks to increase their chances of securing admission to BITS campuses.

The BITSAT Cut-off 2024 depends on various factors, such as:

  • The number of seats available for various courses in the campuses of BITS – Pilani, Hyderabad, Goa, and Dubai
  • The number of students appearing for the exam
  • The difficulty level of BITSAT for 2024
  • Cutoff trends in the past years

The pattern

  • Candidates must reserve a slot for the test because it is computer-based.
  • The exam will last three hours and have four parts.
  • There is no time restriction for any of the test’s individual parts.
  • There will be a total of 130 questions.
  • All of the questions will be multiple choice questions (MCQs), which have four possible answers, only one of which is correct.
  • Each right response earns three marks, whereas each wrong response incurs a penalty of one mark (-1 mark).
  • For questions not answered, there are no marks given.
  • The candidates can go back and change any of their answers among the 130 questions.
  • The medium of the Question Paper will be English only.
  • If there is still time after answering all 130 questions (without skipping a single one), the candidate may choose to attempt 12 additional questions.
  • Three extra questions from each subject—Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology, and Logical Reasoning—will be included.
  • Additionally, after the candidate selects the extra questions, he is not allowed to go back and change any of the 130 questions he previously answered.
  • A day after the test, candidates will be able to access their scores online. The results can also be printed out.

Marking scheme

The no. of questions in each part is as follows:

Part Subject No of questions
Part I Physics 30
Part II Chemistry 30
Part III (a) English Proficiency
(b) Logical Reasoning
10
20
Part IV Mathematics / Biology 40
