“My name is V. V. Prasad. I am the Principal and Director of Shri Vishnu Junior College,” the leader began, a gentle pride gleaming in his eyes. “I’ve also been a lecturer for 18 years. Coming from a humble family, I’ve always understood the value of education.”
With over 2,000 students currently enrolled and 6,000 more having benefited from distance education programs, Shri Vishnu Junior College stands as a beacon of hope. “Every hall ticket handed out and every academic promotion facilitated carries a piece of my heart,” Prasad shared.
But behind the college’s success lies an unwavering commitment to one principle: no student, especially girls, should have to abandon their education due to financial struggles.
“I have always believed that education is the one tool that can truly change lives. So, whenever a parent came to me and said, ‘Sir, we cannot afford the fees,’ I couldn’t bear to turn them away. I am offering free education so no girl is left behind,” the school leader said proudly.
Overcoming Challenges in School
Running an educational institution comes with its own set of challenges. Limited resources, infrastructure demands, and maintaining affordability for students remain ongoing challenges. Despite these obstacles, the school remains committed to its vision. Prasad aimed to establish a medical center in Mangalagiri but faced delays.
However, undeterred by setbacks, he has now shifted his focus to setting up a B.Sc. Nursing school and introducing two-year diploma programs to train skilled professionals, including technicians and nurses, for the healthcare industry.
Collaboration with Varthana
To enhance its facilities, the school leader collaborated with Varthana to secure a loan. This funding helped him construct an institution that fulfils its mission of providing degree-level education to all.
This funding helped Prasad establish an institution for degree-level education. Additionally, the financial support strengthened his school by improving facilities, providing buses, benches, and on-time salaries for staff. He added, “Unlike other lenders, Varthana approved the loan in just a few days, helping us to take quick action on our school initiatives.”

The opening of a medical institution is still an important goal for the school, and the school leader is committed to turning it into reality.
