The drive behind opening a school

Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.” ~ Nelson Mandela

This quote inspired Mohammad Aslam Khan to start his journey and is a testament to his belief. Fueled by a passion for teaching and making a difference, Aslam’s story goes beyond starting a school—it’s about creating a brighter future for children in his community.

In 2015, he became the Director of Ashta Public School, but his journey in education began much earlier. With a Master’s in English from a government college, Aslam initially taught in schools and colleges. However, his desire for greater independence and impact drove him to establish Ashta Public School, a venture born from passion and necessity.

The Ashta Public School

“I wanted to create something of my own, something that would give children a brighter future,” he shares. While working as a teacher, Aslam realized his mission was more than just teaching. The early years were tough, especially with financial struggles. “Money was the biggest challenge,” Aslam says. However, through determination, he gathered resources, partnered with local businesses, and slowly built the school. “I started with what I had and believed hard work would lead to success,” he adds.

However, Aslam’s journey was full of challenges, especially financial ones. Coming from a modest background, he struggled to set up the school with the facilities he wanted. But he didn’t give up. He gathered the needed resources and gradually expanded the school.

“We started with rented premises and basic facilities, but I was determined to provide more,” he added. His hard work paid off when Ashta Public School finally moved into its building. “It was a dream come true,” he proudly shares.

He also mentioned how Varthana played a key role in supporting Ashta Public School during its financial struggles, “Their support helped us keep providing quality education,” Aslam says. He is very grateful for the partnership and is hopeful about the school’s future.

How is it going in 2024

At Ashta Public School, it’s not just about grades—it’s about shaping lives. Aslam believes in going beyond academics to nurture well-rounded individuals. From seminars to sports and cultural competitions, he ensures students are prepared for life, not just exams.

Today, many of his students have built successful careers in fields like engineering, healthcare, and education. Some have even returned as teachers. “Watching my former students now teaching beside me is one of the greatest rewards,” he says proudly.

Aslam dreams of a future where children from rural areas have access to top facilities. “I want our school to be a place where students can learn, play, and grow in every way,” he says. His goal is to expand Ashta Public School and make sure no child is left behind, no matter their background.

Summing up

“Without Varthana’s support, it would have been much harder to survive,” Aslam concludes. Aslam’s journey shows how passion, perseverance, and dedication to education can lead to great achievements. His story inspires others, proving that one person’s vision can change the lives of many children and make a lasting impact on the community.
